  Garrett nodded. “And not enough answers,” he said cheerfully. “That’s all right. That’s why we’re here.” He extended a hand and pulled me gently to my feet.

  “Take tomorrow off,” he instructed me, “but I want to see you back at work, bright and early, the day after.” He smiled and tipped me a salute before heading off to where Anna was talking to the medical assistant.

  I leaned back, covering my face. So many questions. Not enough answers. I thought briefly of Charles, somewhere in the boundary lands ... and poor Dr. Hatsuka. I raised my chin, determined.

  It was time to fight.
